Gomoku (Five in a Row) Rules

Gomoku, also known as Five in a Row, is a classic board game played on a 15×15 grid.

Basic Rules:

  • Players: Two players take turns, one using black stones and the other using white stones.
  • Starting: Black always plays first.
  • Gameplay: Players take turns placing one stone of their color on an empty intersection of the grid.
  • Objective: The winner is the first player to form an unbroken chain of five stones horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
  • Draw: If the entire board is filled without either player forming a line of five, the game is a draw.

Strategy Tips:

  • Try to create multiple threats simultaneously to force your opponent to defend.
  • Block your opponent's attempts to create lines of four stones.
  • Control the center of the board when possible, as it offers more winning opportunities.
  • Watch for diagonal threats, as they can be harder to spot.
